The story behind my first children's book, and a dream that has been with me for many years.
Today, October 10, is the official launch day of my first book, "Sóla's Journey to Heal the Earth: How Nature Understands Kindness"🌿
It has been such an interesting experience to write and publish a book. I have dreamt of doing this for a long time, and now the first book is finally in bookstores. Quite amazing feeling actually.
But Sóla's story is much bigger than this one book, if I may be honest for a while.
I already have the whole story planned out in five books, each connected to one of the five foundations of sustainability. I decided to start with just one book, to see how the whole process works and learn how the publishing journey goes along.
And because the story goes way back, something came up yesterday that made me think about where all of this began.
I attended a talk about climate change and the health of our planet. The speaker was globally well known and Háskólabíó was full. What caught my attention was the small Sustainable Development Goals pin on his jacket.
It brought me back to 2012, when the international work that would later lead to the SDG was just beginning.
I remember feeling something really special at that time, an old sense of warmth and global hope, witnessing in that process that people around the world wanted to work together to create a better future.
For a long time, I wore the SDG pin with pride, being the Director of the UN Association of Iceland, and introducing the SDG palette to schools and institutions for a while.
And somehow, that feeling has never left me.
The same hope and care for our planet is still with me, just now, it found its way to stories about a little girl called Sóla !
And Sóla is beginning her own adventure, carrying love and care for the Earth to children around the world.
