The value of sustainability in business

September 16, 20242 min read

Here I am wondering about value of things, when starting out my coaching business. I value being in nature, that is for sure. And I value the freedom of helping others. Something being destroyed that I value immensely, takes me to write a word and take action.

Understanding the value of nature is pivotal in reshaping our economic systems. Is that even possible for us working in the sector? Yes I am sure, and it has been done, but for the rest of people not working closely related to this thinking?

It is like calculating backwards, if you remember from high-school!

The value is really future related.

The natural environment provides services like clean air, water, and fertile soil, which are indispensable for various industries and our overall economic stability.

If you, as a person, can truly acknowledge these benefits that we have from Mother earth, we can lead to more sustainable practices that enhance long-term resilience and prosperity.

The economy and natural ecosystems are deeply intertwined; thus, safeguarding nature's health means safeguarding our economic future.

If you are a sustainability professional, I am sure you know of an audit is being made in your working place, like environmental impact to identify key areas for improvement. If nothing is being done, check it out.

Just be sure something is being done.

Two things being quite easy to implement and check upon fast:

  • Implement eco-friendly policies such as waste reduction, water conservation, and energy efficiency programs within your organization.

  • Partner with organizations that focus on conservation efforts to bolster your sustainability initiatives and enhance corporate social responsibility.

  • The last and not the least point is, that first of all get the whole team and closes friends circle and unite around the fact that THERE IS a true value of nature, that is a good start.

And it is of course invaluable, when you take into account all things being future related, hence your kids and family. But the term "invaluable" is perhaps not the top favorite word in a business ! Still that is the battle we are facing, those working in this sector.

Bring the question on this future related view of "value" into the sustainability discussion, since directors tend to ask about it from a very narrow tunneled perspective. At least try.
